Merit and Social Criteria based additional Scholarships: Celebrating the achievement of 24 laureates

The outstanding performance of the 24 laureates for Additional Scholarships based on Merit and Social Criteria who sat for the 2019 Cambridge Higher School Certificate (HSC) examinations was celebrated, today, during a reception held in Phoenix.
The event is an initiative of the Ministry of Education, Tertiary Education, Science and Technology.
The Vice-Prime Minister, Minister of Education, Tertiary Education, Science and Technology, Mrs Leela Devi Dookun-Luchoomun and the Senior Chief Executive of the Minister of Education, Tertiary Education, Science and Technology, Mr R.Meettook were present.
The 24 laureates are from the following colleges: Sookdeo Bissoondoyal State College; College du Saint Esprit; Royal College Port Louis; Droopnath Ramphul State College; Queen Elizabeth College; Mahatma Gandhi Secondary School/Institute Flacq/Nouvelle France/Moka; James Burty David SSS; Rabindranath Tagore Secondary School; Forest Side SSS; Sir Leckraj Teelock SSS; New Eton College; Doha Secondary School and Rodrigues College.
In her address, Mrs Dookun-Luchoomun congratulated the laureates for their success and stated that this accomplishment marks the culmination of their hard work, resolute dedication and perseverance as well as the support and guidance of their families.
The Scholarship, she said demonstrates Government’s effort to provide equal opportunities to each and everyone as well as fostering a sane competitive atmosphere.
She appealed to the laureates to become more versatile, quick and agile when choosing their career.
As per the conditions of the scholarships, all beneficiaries of scholarships have the option to study either locally or abroad.
It is recalled that all beneficiaries of the 24 scholarships on the basis of Merit and Social Criteria under the Additional Scholarship Schemes will have to work for at least two years in a Ministry or Government department in Mauritius immediately after completion of their first degree.
